I know some of you will think it's kind of late to start him on the rice cereal, but I subscribed to the "exclusive nursing for 6 months" thinking (even though he had some formula when he was dealing with his jaundace - but that's another story). He's now 5 1/2 months old and starting to act like he wants more in his tummy than milk so we figured he got most of the benefits of exclusive nursing. (I'm still hoping to nurse for the whole first year - wish me luck!)
Hands & feet are normally my favorite things to munch on
This isn't TOO bad...
Actually kind of tasty!

I don't think it's late - I think it's a personal choice. Anywhere from 4-6 months is a "normal" time to start them on solids.
Good for you for exclusively nursing and yay for Brett for his first bites of food!
I smelled the rice cereal when I gave it to Hannah and thought "she's probably thinking 'I've been watching these people eat for months now - if I had known it tasted like this, I wouldn't have wanted any.'" LOL
Great if you can nurse that long, Go For It! I nursed until 18 months, and didn't start Chris on solids until he was the same age as Brett. Glad I did it that way too, with all his health drama, turns out he did as well as he did because I nursed so long.
We have that same high chair! Glad to see someone else is trying out the ol' 6-month timeline...did people over the age of 45 look at you like you had 2 heads when you said you were going to wait that long? If I hear one more old lady say, "I gave my baby cereal at 6 weeks," I'll go nuts. Miles' 4-month doc appt is next week, so he may recommend otherwise, but I'm not ready for the little guy to make that next big step to solid foods!
Glad to hear you feel the same! I am sure Miles will do great... btw he keeps getting cuter and cuter! Brett also now likes to make that razzing sound.
I love everything about this post... I nursed Bryn for a whole year, so it can definitely be done (although Shay was a different story). Great bib on Brett, and LOVE the title of the post--only a true "Friends" fan would appreciate it. :)
Carrie, I love that you are so close to meeting your first goal of nursing exclusively for 6 months! I think that it is so awesome when women put their mind to something and then accomplish it! Nursing for a year is not hard at all...once you have the okay to start other solids you'll probably scale back on nursing and before you know it you'll only nurse 2xs a day...Max and I powered through for 14 months (he quit cold turkey while we were on vacation...painful for momma - physically and emotionally - but it worked for him!).
Don't forget that you can use EBM to make the rice cereal...
